The Communications Department serves a vital purpose, as language is the basis for thinking, communicating, and learning throughout the student's life. Students need to be able to think critically and creatively, express themselves clearly and effectively, comprehend ideas and information, and demonstrate their knowledge through writing. The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, will enable students to succeed outside of the school environment. Through the study of literature, students gain a perspective on culture and society and gain an appreciation for various genres of writing. The O'Neill Communications Department has a tradition of excellence and offers a great variety of courses to enrich students' experiences. Courses are offered in Writer's Craft and Media Studies, as well as Core English programmes to appeal to the strengths of all students.
