WORLD HISTORY:  THE WEST AND THE WORLD – UNIVERSITY

CODE:  CHY 4U1

Prerequisite:  Any university, university/college, or college preparations course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanities

 

A student may select only one of CHY 4U1 or CHY 4U2


This course investigates the major trends in Western civilization and world history from the sixteenth century to the present.  Students will learn about the interaction between the emerging West and other regions of the world and about the development of modern social, political, and economic systems.   They will use critical-thinking and communication skills to investigate the historical roots of contemporary issues and present their conclusions.

Prerequisite:  Any university, university/college, or college preparations course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanities

 

A student may select only one of CHY 4U1 or CHY 4U2


This course investigates the major trends in Western civilization and world history from the sixteenth century to the present.  Students will learn about the interaction between the emerging West and other regions of the world and about the development of modern social, political, and economic systems.  They will use critical-thinking and communication skills to investigate the historical roots of contemporary issues and present their conclusions.   Students taking this course will be eligible to take the associated Advanced Placement exam in European History.

CODE:  CHY 4C1

Prerequisite:  Any university, university/college, or college preparations course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanities


This course explores the history of the world since the sixteenth century, emphasizing the interaction between the emerging West and other regions of the world.  Students will learn about a variety of economic, social, and political systems and the changes they have undergone over time.  Students will apply their developing skills of historical inquiry to understand and communicate ideas about the forces that have formed our modern world.

 

 


VISUAL HISTORY: EXPLORING THE PAST THROUGH FILM AND OTHER MEDIA - OPEN

CODE:  IDC 4O3

Prerequisite:  Any university, university/college, or college preparations course in Canadian and world studies, English, or social sciences and humanities


This course is designed for students with an interest in history, film and media.  Combing the expectations of World History and Media Studies, students will study major themes in World History by examining relevant films and other media.  Through individual and collective inquiry and research into historical themes using various media, students will apply the principles and skills derived from the complementary subjects and develop critical thinking and analytical skills.
