PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY:  PATTERNS, PROCESS, AND NATURAL DISASTERS - UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE

CODE:  CGF 3M1

Prerequisite:  Geography of Canada, grade 9 academic or applied – CGC 1D1 or CGC 1P1

This course examines the major patterns of physical geography and the powerful forces, and the natural disasters that affect them.  Students will investigate the dynamic nature of the earth, the evolving relationship between the planet and its people, and the factors that limit our ability to predict the changes that will occur.  Students will use a wide range of geotechnologies and inquiry methods to investigate the distribution and interaction of the elements of their physical environment and to communicate their findings.

 

 


OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES/ENVIRONMENTAL GEOGRAPHY AND PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION

CODE:  PAD CGF  ( 2 Credits )

NOTE:  This course is open to students entering Grade 11.

This is a two credit course which combines certain aspects of physical geography with outdoor education and fitness training.  Students will examine their surrounding environment from a human use perspective and then learn how to interact with the outdoors.  The classroom component will be geographically based.  The outdoor experiential component may include hiking, cycling, canoeing, camping, rock climbing, etc.  This course will involve some equipment rental costs and some travel costs.  The programme cost will be $250.00 – payable in two installments – one in June and the second in September.  The selection process will be based on a interview with the candidate and the individual’s ability to meet course expectations.




REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY:  TRAVEL TOURISM – OPEN

CODE:  CGG 3O1

Prerequisite:  Geography of Canada, grade 9 applied or academic– CGC 1P1 or CGC 1D1

This course focuses on travel and tourism as a vehicle for studying selected world regions.  Using a variety of geotechnologies and inquiry and communication methods, students will conduct and present case studies that develop their understanding of the unique characteristics of selected world regions; the environmental, cultural, economic, and political factors that influence travel and tourism; and the impact of the travel industry on communities and environments around the world.
