MUSIC – SENIOR JAZZ ENSEMBLE – OPEN

CODE:  AMH 2O1 (Senior Jazz Band)

Prerequisite:  Any Grade 9 Music and Audition

This course develops students’ artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of music and the preparation of music productions.  Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in the jazz style.  Independently and in groups, they will also plan, market and produce music, making use of appropriate technology, and the students will evaluate their results.  An audition is required.  Music Fee:  $50.00

MUSIC – SENIOR CHAMBER CHOIR – OPEN

CODE:  AMJ 2O1

Prerequisite:  Any Grade 9 Music and Audition

This course develops students’ artistic knowledge and skills through the performance of music and the preparation of music productions.  Students will perform appropriate works, particularly works in contemporary popular styles.  Independently and in groups, they will also plan, market, and produce music productions, making use of appropriate technology, and students will evaluate their results.  An audition is required.

MUSIC – INSTRUMENTAL – OPEN – BEGINNER

CODE:  AMU 2O1   (for students who have NOT previously taken music).

This course emphasizes performance of music at a beginning level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill.  Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively.  Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.  Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Intermediate Concert Band and Chamber Choir, which rehearse after school hours.  Music Fee:  $35.00

MUSIC – VOCAL – OPEN

CODE:  AMV 2O1

Students will study concepts in tone, intonation, phrasing, related listening and history, and analysis in solo.  Students perform small group and choir works, jazz, pop and legitimate songs.  The course includes ear training, transposition, harmony, form, style, sight reading and song writing.  Music Fee:  $35.00
