VISUAL ARTS – UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE

CODE:  AVI 3M1

Prerequisite:  AVI 1O1 or AVI 2O1

Offering a more involved study of the Elements and Principles, this course has as its theme the development of the students’ own set of imagery/technical expertise.  For example, acrylic painting and lino-cut print making are explored in addition to technical approaches already mastered.  History studies continue the survey of Year Two and involve an appreciation of key works and movements in Western Art from the early Middle Ages to the Renaissance, whenever and wherever possible linking history studies with studio activities. The payment of a Studio Materials Fee is required to offset the cost of work in media appropriate to senior level studies in the Visual Arts.  Course/Studio Fee:  $30.00

VISUAL ARTS – ADVANCED DRAWING AND VISUALIZATION – UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE

CODE:  AWL 3M1

Co-requisite:  A credit in, or currently enrolled in, AVI 3M1

Students will explore a variety of subject matter types, both from the world around us, and the inner world of the artist’s imagination.  Particular attention will be paid to that most challenging, and yet perhaps most expressive of all subject genres, the human figure.  Drawing as an exacting means of recording and interpreting reality, working in a variety of media and techniques including pseudo-intaglio printmaking, and, finally, studying the work of the Masters, will enable students to realize their own unique artistic vision.    Course/Studio Fee:  $30.00

VISUAL ARTS – CYBER ARTS – OPEN

CODE:  AWS 3O1

Recommended Preparation:  AVI 1O1 or AVI 2O1

This course focuses on studio activities in one or more of the Visual Arts.  Students will create art works that explore a wide range of subject matter, and will evaluate their art works, providing grounds for their aesthetic judgements.  They will also examine historical and cultural contexts of Western Art (including Canadian Art) and art from various world cultures to support their study of specific media.  Aimed at students who require an alternative to a traditional Visual Arts experience, this course utilizes the computer, the photocopier and digital imagery as the primary means of artistic expression, though some work in typical art media and techniques will be required.   Course/Studio Fee:  $30.00
