This foundation course features the basic Elements of Design plus selected Principles, along with, of course, work in a variety of media, techniques, and styles. Students are introduced to Art Theory and Appreciation, including some key periods/styles in Canadian Art History, whenever and wherever possible making the most of their own applied skills and creativity. The payment of an Art fee goes toward the equipping of each student with his/her own personal Art Kit/materials. Art Kit Fee approx. $30.00.
VISUAL ARTS – CARTOONING – OPEN
CODE: AWK 1O1
Prerequisite: Portfolio presentations are held in February
Co-requisite: A credit in, or currently enrolled in, AVI 1O1
Students will explore a variety of traditional and contemporary cartoon forms, including the Political or Editorial Cartoon, the Classic Strip, Fantasy and Super Heroes, and film-influenced forms like the Graphic Novel. Life Drawing, Layout and Lettering, Linear Perspective, the figure as an Art Historical subject genre, as well as work in a variety of media and techniques will enable student-cartoonists to fully realize their imaginative creations. A Studio Fee helps provide students with the necessary materials, including their own set of animation markers. Art Fee: approx. $30.00. Available to O’Neill area students ONLY.
